SIAS hosts 3rd Marine Salon in 2017

On November 7, 2017, the SIAS held this year’s third Marine Salon: “A Comparative Analysis on Maritime Strategies of China and Japan”. In the context of China-Japan relations academics from both countries looked into marine law and regulations and compared the differences between the two countries’ respective maritime strategies. They also shared their views on China-Japan maritime cooperation, the status quo of the East China Sea issue, and the status quo and prospects of the South China Sea issue. 

Participants from Japan included Ito Go, Professor, Trustee and Superior Research Fellow at the Japan Forum on International Relations (JFIR) at Meiji University; Sato Koichi, Professor at J.F. Oberlin University; Hatakeyama Kyoko, Associate Professor at Kansai Gaidai University; and Katsukawa Teruo, Research Fellow at JFIR. They were joined by Chinese scholars from Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University, the Center for Japanese Studies at SASS and the SIAS research staff.
