On January 25, 2016, Professor Lars Andersen from the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) gave a lecture at the SIAS titled “The Increase of Terrorism in Europe: The Dynamics Between Homegrown European Terrorists and the War Against ISIL”. Professor Andersen discussed recent terror attacks in Europe and related matters such as the growing population of domestic terrorists and aggravated attacks on so-called “soft targets”. He also summarized current counter-terrorism policies undertaken by the US and some major European countries and shared his expectations of their future strategies.

During the Q&A counter-terrorism specialists from Fudan University and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and young scholars from the SIAS exchanged views with Andersen on issues such as domestic counter-terrorism measures in major EU countries and Denmark, the expectations of the counter-terrorism alliance formed between the US and Europe, and the possibility of a China-US collaboration on counter-terrorism in the Middle East.
