On July 14, 2020, at the invitation of World Trade Center(WTC) Utah, SIAS joined a webinar titled “Opportunities and Challenges Faced by US Companies in the Enforcement of the China-US Phase One Trade Deal”. Professor Wu Xinbo, president of SIAS, Long Fei, deputy director of the Office of Research at SIAS, Chen Jiajun and Zhao Shuting, research staff at SIAS, joined Minister Xu Xueyuan from the Chinese Embassy in the United States and Miles Hansen, president and CEO of WTC Utah, as well as more than one hundred companies from Utah in the conversation, sharing their insights on how to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two sides.

Professor Wu Xinbo introduced the exchanges that have occurred between Shanghai and Utah over the past few years, especially after SIAS hosted the high-end forum “From a Shared History to a Shared Future”. He highlighted that the forum has expanded Utah’s influence in Shanghai, with some local companies having inquired about the quality and prices of Utah’s agricultural and sideline products. Several middle schools in Shanghai have established educational cooperation with their Utah counterparts.

Minister Xu Xueyuan noted that China is always committed to a higher level of opening to boost reform and development. Only through conversationand cooperation, can we bring more opportunities and welfare to people and companies of both countries, and keep bilateral economic and trade ties stable and strong.

The webinar helped to advance bilateral pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and other areas, by helping Utah government, organizations and companies gain a better understanding of the enforcement of the phase one trade deal and trade policies in both countries.
