SIAS cohosts seminar ‘Education: A Bridge for China-US Cooperation’

Posted:2019-01-12

On January 12, 2019, the SIAS jointly held a symposium “Education: A Bridge for China-US Cooperation”, together with the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association (SPDA) and the Institute of International Relations of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). This conference is part of a series of events launched by the SIAS to commemorate the 40th anniversary of China-US diplomatic normalization. At the meeting, the SIAS launched its latest publication A Century of Educational Exchanges Between Shanghai and the US.

Educators from the front lines and scholars from both countries looked back on the profound history of educational cooperation between Shanghai and the US, and showcased successful cases.

While acknowledging the positive role educational cooperation has played in the  friendship and cooperation between both countries, they warned against the headwinds in current bilateral interactions, calling for the de-politicization of educational exchanges. Those participated agreed that educational cooperation could continue to contribute to the steady development of bilateral ties, as there is still huge potential for growth.

Xinhua News Agency, China News Service, Wenhui Daily, The Paper, Guang Ming Daily and other media outlets covered the event in their reports.
