On August 13, 2018, Professor Lars Andersen, senior fellow at the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) visited the SIAS and lectured on the US and the “New Cold War” paradigm.

Professor Andersen’s studies have focused on terrorism in the Middle East, European counter-radicalization efforts and America’s security policy. For the past few years, he has also studied theories on World Order and the Belt and Road Initiative. In his lecture, he looked into the US security and defense policies from George H.W. Bush to the Trump administration. According to Professor Andersen, the US foreign policy under Trump, as exemplified by his “America First” policy and other new elements, represents a “New Cold War” paradigm. Academics from Fudan University and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) joined the SIAS research staff at the meeting.
