Professor Xia Yafeng speaks at SIAS

On July 10, 2018, professor Xia Yafeng of the Long Island University (LIU) in New York visited the SIAS and gave a lecture entitled “US Presidents and the Evolution of America’s China Strategy Since World War II: from Truman to Trump”.

As a tenured professor of East Asian and diplomatic history at LIU, Professor Xia’s studies focus on the history of the Cold War. He also serves as adjunct professor at the Center for Cold War International History Studies (CCWIHS) at East China Normal University (ECNU), Director of ECNU-WWICS (Woodrow Wilson International Center For Scholars) Cold War Studies Initiative and chair professor at Northeast Normal University. In the lecture, he looked back on the development of China-US relations since World War II by examining US presidents and their personalities, management styles, as well as their China policies since World War II, and shared his ideas with participants on key issues on bilateral relations. Experts and academics from the Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations (SFSSA), the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences(SASS)joined the SIAS research staff at the meeting.
