On May 26, 2018, the SIAS held the second of this year’s Marine Salon series, in light of China-Japan cooperation in the South China Sea.

Japanese academics from Waseda University, Kobe University and Meiji Gakuin University joined their Chinese counterparts from East China University of Political Science and Law, Ningbo University and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), as well as the SIAS research staff at the salon. Those who participated looked into the maritime dispute settlement mechanism and cooperation in semi-closed seas under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and the construction of maritime order in East Asia, among other issues.
