Shanghai Images: A Pictorial Century of Sino-US Relations

Posted:2012-01-07

Since Shanghai opened its port in 1843, the city has played an irreplaceable role in the history of China-US relations. As the first portal for Americans stepping into China, Shanghai has witnessed thousands of significant historical events concerning China and the US. With the support from the Xinhua News Agency, China News Service, Shanghai Municipal Archives, Shanghai Library, Xinmin Evening News, the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, the SIAS selected images from a vast collection of pictures and published Shanghai Images: A Pictorial Century of Sino-US Relations, in an effort to make sure the precious pictures and histories will be preserved and passed down for generations. Presented to the public in the lead-up to the 40th anniversary of Shanghai Communique, the book was published by Shanghai People's Publishing House in January 2012.
